Overview

The aim of the Programme is to develop an innovative, sustainable, and globally oriented master’s degree Programme, with an aspiration to contribute to the advancement of Epidemiology and Public Health education and research.

Therefore, this Programme promotes the accumulated knowledge and advanced skills towards the advancement and promotion of innovative Public Health systems, methods and evidence-based interventions that add value to all the stakeholders and the society.

In addition to acquiring fundamental knowledge and tools necessary to successfully work in public health, the online courses offer the opportunity to connect with colleagues and expand professional networks.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Programme, you are expected to:

  • Apply the acquired knowledge, skills and research methodologies to Public Health and propose further advancement for various entities and organizations dealing with Public Health issues.
  • Describe and discuss surveillance that allows routine monitoring of infectious and non-infectious diseases, identification of clusters or outbreaks, and routine monitoring and evaluation of health care delivery.
  • Develop critical understanding of epidemiology and public health principles and its relation to politics, health, and economics.
  • Implement the acquired specific competencies regarding risk assessment and management of specific infectious agents and diseases in Public Health, the control of the environment, health care provider controls and administrative controls.
  • Identify areas of public health that need a sustainable and transparent intervention and critically discuss the methodology for providing solutions that are evidence-based, realistic, cost-effective and have the potential to be, implemented.
  • Critically apply appropriate theories, concepts, conceptual frameworks to describe the health policy-making process that includes the mapping of the current situation, the input from the stakeholders, agenda setting, policy formation, implementation and evaluation based on predefined criteria.

Admission requirements

To be admitted to the Programme, as candidate, you must file an Application within the designated deadline, containing the following information:

  1. a letter indicating the Programme of Study for which you are applying and your motivation,
  2. a certified copy of a bachelor’s degree at any accredited university or its equivalent,
  3. a document of the your educational record indicating the courses attended, the corresponding grades received and the Grade Point Average,
  4. a short Curriculum Vitae, and
  5. two letters of recommendation by your past professors or employers, mailed directly to the Office of Admissions of the University.

In addition to the above requirements of the Programme, you must have a satisfactory level of knowledge in computers and digital technology usage and have access to a computer with broadband Internet connection, speakers, microphone, and a camera.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for the Programme will be 7000 euro (please note that the amount in question includes all the necessary educational material for the entire master’s degree

Courses

EPH 110: Advanced epidemiology of infectious and non-communicable diseases I

The objectives of the course are:

  • To introduce the basic concepts and methods of epidemiology of infectious and non-infectious diseases
  • To help students explore and explain the trends and patterns in the burden of communicable and non-communicable disease, both globally and in Europe
  • To help students become specialists in intervention and field epidemiology
  • To provide students with an overview of core health challenges and lines of epidemiological research being undertaken, across a range of infectious and non-communicable diseases.

EPH 111: Research Methodology and Biostatistics

The objectives of the course are:

  • To familiarize you, as students, with scientific research.
  • To present methods of designing and conducting scientific research.
  • To provide the theoretical framework and practical knowledge for conducting quantitative and qualitative research
  • To teach you how to structure and write an assignment.

EPH 112: Advanced Leadership, Governance and Quality Management

The objectives of the course are:

  • To familiarize you, as students, with fundamentals of Public Health Administration, Leadership and Quality Management
  • To provide you with the advanced skills and tools to successfully guide their teams through the steps of developing, implementing, and evaluating a quality assurance and improvement project in public health, and
  • To provide you with competences and skills in linking theoretical foundations of quality, risk, and safety with practical applications in public health and healthcare settings, and to develop expertise enabling individuals to assume leadership roles to promote excellence and sustainability of public health.

EPH 113: Health Promotion Policy

This course aims to provide you, as students, with an understanding of the basic topics of epidemiology and the different categories of epidemiological studies so that they can apply the basic principles in public health and understand how the results of studies are used in the public health workplace.

After learning about and appreciating the impact of epidemiology on public health practice, the course will focus on three major approaches to health improvement whose design draws information and conclusions from epidemiology: Health Promotion, Prevention and Community Development.

EPH 121: Advanced epidemiology of infectious and non-communicable diseases II

The objectives of the course are:

  • To familiarize you, as, students with fundamentals concepts of epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases
  • To provide the skills and tools to successfully design, implement epidemiological investigations and prevention methods of epidemics
  • To provide knowledge of more complex statistical methods and skills for implementation systematic reviews and meta-analysis.

EPH 122: Advanced Infection Prevention and Control – Antimicrobial Resistance

The objectives of the course are:

  • To help you, as students, gain skills essential for effective communication, conflict management, project management, and training as well as learn about implementation strategies that can help them translate infection prevention and control guidelines and standards into practice in Public Health
  • to provide a framework for prevention and control of antibiotic resistant organism’s onset in health care and the risks they pose in Public Health
  • to familiarize you with surveillance that allows for routine monitoring of Healthcare Associated Infections, identification of clusters or outbreaks, and routine monitoring and evaluation of health care delivery.
  • to identify risk factors within the care environment, including microorganisms, that contribute to the burden of HAIs
  • to identify appropriate application of standard precautions during care activities in various healthcare facilities and out of hospital premises and know when transmission-based precautions are indicated.

EPH 123: Public Health Emergency Preparedness, response, and Mass Gathering Events Management

The objectives of the course are:

  • To familiarize you, as students, with public health emergency preparedness and crisis management capabilities (infrastructure, policies, and procedures, knowledgeable and training of personnel)
  • To introduce you to the four main phases of public health emergency management: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery
  • To provide a narrative explaining how to conduct and how to critically evaluate a rapid risk assessment for emerging public health issues
  • To prepare you to critically appraise ad apply emergency preparedness and crisis management plans to prevent and manage them effectively.

EPH 200: Master Thesis

The Master thesis is a curriculum obligation for you al, as l students, of this postgraduate Programme.

The primary objective of this course is to develop a research orientation among the students and to acquaint them with fundamentals of research methods by applying them in the research field.

So, on successful completion of the thesis, you will be able to:

  • demonstrate clarity of problem definition and scope,
  • identify and critically evaluate appropriate techniques for data analysis, presentation and modelling,
  • critically evaluate the applicability and performance of forecasting and modelling methods and techniques to public organization,
  • design a program of research, data collection, and analysis integrating research aims, data requirements, and methods of collection and analysis, taking into account ethical and other constraints,
  • write up the results of their research in an academically acceptable format, paying particular attention to integration of the literature review, critical evaluation of data, and clear presentation of research results.
